One thing I find enjoyable around this time a year is a good, fiery release to help warm up with during the cold season and to bring in some contrast from the appropriate, ice-cold black metal that comes out a lot towards the end of the year/beginning of the year. Precaria brings the infernal heat with their compilation album “Nigraluminiscencia”. While this is not a traditional style full length, it still stays within the same lyrical concept throughout and was meant for this album to be unleashed as such.
“Nigraluminiscencia” starts with a second or two of infernal fires crackling until you’re right where the music wants you, disoriented in dissonance and feeling the flames of your inner-hell. When the energy makes it’s presence known with it’s scathing screams, that’s when the journey through infinity will truly start. A quick side note, hats off to Central and South America for always having great dissonant black metal and gnarly black/death. When I see albums that come from those regions, it usually falls into that window, and it’s usually done very well. Anyway, back to the music. Every vessel of what makes this release into its own entity can be heard from start to finish. Audible bass lines can be heard throughout, which really helps the music shine and have the strength you would expect from something that sounds like it has just made it to its final form of Hadean sublimity. Blasts and thundering double bass plague the air for most of your duration, but don’t think for a second that there isn’t plenty of variety that will make any percussionist feel satisfied. The guitar passages and compositions offer themselves to the other side through dread and skittishness. Moments you can follow and understand the path that you’re lead to take, but then just like that, you’re turned in to uncertainty. Bring all of these ingredients together and stir it well within the Devil’s cauldron, you get the final potion of hellish tranquility. With such a focused sound and vision, I’m excited to see more concoctions being conjured by Precaria in the near future.
