Welcome to the interstellar project known as Zebulon Kosted. Through the existence of 21 years so far, Zebulon Kosted has had over 50 releases! This includes several full-lengths and splits to fill your ears with some of the widest-ranging noises and tones ever to be recorded. Rashid Abdel Ghafur, the mastermind behind the mazes and maces, can keep any fan of experimental/avant-garde black metal guessing and happy.
“Torches Behind The Waterfall” takes you on a voyage from one end of the solar system to the other. Think of the sun being your middle ground as you run towards the sun. Entering the center you start relishing being in the middle of the orchestrated madness that spins all around you. But like all things, this too shall pass, and off you go to the other end of the spectrum. The beginning journey to the sun warms you up with melodies, disarrayed turbulence, and anything in between. Whispers carry you down the path, and then all of a sudden things start to get bizarre.
Track four, ‘Pray For The Predator And The Prey’, is the nucleus of all things in front and behind you. Clocking in at 22:37, this will be the main attraction of your intergalactic travels. This transmission is a prime example of songs that can captivate you when your eyes are closed. Floating through white light, weightless as you travel through blissful fury that helps keep order to the chaos, you find yourself lost but comforted simultaneously. Enjoy every second of what you’re experiencing because before you know it, it’ll all be behind you as you continue your journey.
Leaving something so monumental and haunting can leave you shaken up, and it’ll take time for you to get back to your self-learned awareness. A strong ambient blur brings you into a reminiscent period where for a split second you can duplicate the complexity of emotions and feelings you gave birth to while being in the center of life, light, and love. Forever wanting to get back to the beginning of the voyage to experience perfection lingers, and acoustic passages ring you out for the rest of your transmission.
Overall, this is an artist who can paint specific pictures for whoever’s listening. My tale and expression of what the music illustrated for me might be completely different from your experience, but the illustration will still prevail as nothing but beauty and mystery.
‘Torches Behind The Waterfall’ was released on November 27th, 2020 through Hammerkrieg Production on CD/Digital.
