“Hey! You! Come with me. I have something to show you. Hear. Move the manhole cover and come down here. Mind the ladder. The slime makes the rungs slippery. Avoid the walls. They’re filthy with mold and fungus. I wouldn’t step in that water either… Come farther down. Come see. What is it? It’s a corpse, rotten and fetid. Who is it? Hope. This is the corpse of hope.” This is essentially the journey Texas based noise artist Crawl takes you on. The sewer he leads you through reeks of rot and stagnation. Things, dark things, grow fetidly from the walls. Viscous fluids drip at intervals from the ceiling. Disease flows slowly past in the stream of days. Death greets you at the end of the line. All is lost.
This Sad Cadav’r represents a compilation of the current discography of Crawl and one can only hope there is more to come. For me, this falls more squarely under the noise genre with significant nods to a sludge-y blackened doom. A creeping horror roams throughout your psyche as you listen. This release is so painfully engaging as it hooks you and then drags you bodily along it’s blighted path.
Recommendation: Come crawl in the filth.
