Yet another great extreme metal release from Transcending Obscurity. They seem to scour the four corners to save underground bands, well, from obscurity, and Greytomb is worth the honor. It is hard to remember that thirty years ago bands like Greytomb would only be a rumour in the U.S. community. And if you did not have the privilege of living on one of the coasts, you would never have a chance to see an international extreme metal act.
Greytomb is a three piece that features guitar, bass, and vocals. All the music is written by the guitarist, and all the lyrics by the singer. Labeled as atmospheric black metal, there is some definite sludge leanings throughout. Sections are slow and oozing in it’s progressive speed, to be suddenly thrown into a frenzy of power chords and vocals from the guillotine of hell. Would be remiss to not mention the fantastic session drumming from Forge Stone of Norse.
Recommendation- Great three song EP set from a band just finding its footing
Rating- 3/5
