Lucifixion comes out of the shadows unknown to give us their debut album, Trisect Joys Of Pierced Hearts. Lucifixion is a two-piece band that hails from the US, but that’s all that is available on this duo. I love it when a black metal band gives minimum detail about the project. It allows the imagination to wander to hellish depths, and boy, does it get hot with this scorcher!
Trisect Joys Of Pierced Hearts is as venomous as it is rambunctious. This album is a fine example of showcasing that raw black metal doesn’t necessarily mean lo-fi black metal. This is a loud experience that reaches right for the throat. The production of this album is orchestrated perfectly. One thing with raw black metal that I like to pay attention to is the sound quality of the drums, and it’s done to perfection, with highlights to how good the cymbals sound. Evil riffs aplenty as you weave in and out of the hypnotic effects of black metal riffing done right. Many times, it carries the bouncy malevolence of Craft, while there are times when it captures the black purity of bands like Gorgoroth and Watain. All of this is packaged nicely with a scent of black leather jackets and big sunglasses. (A nod to Fenriz for that line).
My favorite track would have to be the new version of Feral Mass, which was a demo track previous to this full-length. Before this album was released, Feral Mass was already known within black metal communities, and the excitement was installed for what was to come next of this band. When I heard the new version, I was pleased to hear growth and an idea sculpted to perfection. This really gives you an insight into the ascension (or descension for the pvrists) as a whole.
If that upgrade is any indication of what is to follow, then we might be talking about a USBM band that is soon to flourish and explode within the scene. You heard it here first,…
KEEP AN EYE OUT ON LUCIFIXION!
Trisect Joys Of Pierced Hearts was released on June 30th by Sentient Ruin Laboratories. It can be bought digitally, on vinyl or cassette on both their personal Bandcamp as well as Sentient Ruin Laboratories. I also purchased the long-sleeve shirt because the design was too gnarly to pass up.
Biography: Michael Litteral is just your friendly neighborhood metalhead who can’t seem to find his way out of the black, and he’s just fine with that.
