Heavy Metal Reviews & Interviews
Starsoup – Castles of Sand
It’s interesting to discover the transformation these very “Western” influences undergo through the able chops and respectable voice of a musician from Moscow, (whose vocal similarity to James Hetfield once landed him a job in a Metallica tribute band).
Retortion Terror/Invidiosus – Split
Which side is better, you ask? I don’t know. They are both excellent. I’ll tell you what. Go pick this up somewhere, and you tell me.
Kremlin -Decimation of the Elites
This is indeed a very solid album that contains all the right stuff to make your day. It may not start a revolution, but heads will certainly roll.
Kremlin – Kremlin
A bloke named Geezer and his mate Tony surely showed up on ‘Lizards’, and the final song ‘World Is Coming Down’ could sit quite comfortably on the opening scene of Apocalypse Now. Amazing.
Apotelesma – Timewrought Kings
Apotelesma combine all of the traits of a successful doom band. The ability to make you feel what they must have had to feel whilst writing this epic
Neocaesar – 11:11
Neocaesar take said death metal and ramp it up to pure malicious levels of brilliance that simply ignore your definitions of what old school or new school are.
Morbid Angel – Kingdoms Disdained
This is the top notch of death metal. For the old fans, get on this, and for everybody else, if you want a lesson in how to do it right, bend an ear to this.
Hexis – XII
This particular release is compact and vicious, a concentrated hit of nastiness for when you need a quick fix.
Coraxo – Sol
an atmosphere that is not beholding to any rules
YLVA – META
some of the heaviest, darkest chords weigh into the battle for your soul
Moonlight Prophecy – Vanquished
Erie, dark, and foreboding emotions run throughout.
Madrost – The Essence of Time Matches No Flesh
In short, The Essence of Time Matches No Flesh absolutely rips, but often in surprising ways.
Apotheon – Mechanically Consumed
I think its also fair to predict, though, that I will continue to pull this album out when a certain mood hits me. It is undeniably intelligent and well done and deserves recognition as such.
Wildspeaker – Spreading Adder
Spreading Adder is the DFW quintet’s most ambitious and dynamic project to date, providing a fiery apocalyptic take on the current state of the world.
Aetheric – Serpents Beneath the Shrine
So, to review, we have excellent playing that actually moves the listener, top notch vocals, and conscious lyrics? Full support from this writer.
Spit/Bad Human Split
These are sparse composition reliant on emotion and passion, with anger being the primary. Make know mistake though, when you’ve had a tough day and just need to come home, vent, and flail for awhile, this is exactly what you want.
Balance of Terror – World Laboratory
You could say that they have learned the lessons of the masters well and then moved the music forward into this generation by creating their own style, which makes the album feel timeless.
The Brood/Kittengrinda – Split
The riffs pour forth like slices during a knife fight in a darkened alley.

Suffering Hour – In Passing Ascension
In Passing Ascension is a masterpiece from a scene (Minneapolis, MN) that is RED HOT right now.
