Layering sludge metal with noise and subtle blackening, 71TonMan join a very select few in creating a soundscape of palpable nihilistic dread.

This album is a masterpiece that will continue to unsettle me for years to come. Take note.
Miasmic Purple Smoke (the album) is a sometimes caustic, sometimes psychedelic, always crushing journey of mesmeric riffs and ponderous rhythms.
Though each band clearly has their own style, the whole is as cohesive as it is crushing, exquisite as it is eviscerating.
…I hear caustic, acidic sludge, bonkers dissonance and hard left turns, and mesmeric melancholy…
Musically ugly, the nasty riffs, abrasive drumming, destructive bass, and visceral howls of rage-filled horror mirror the ugly underbelly of society, an underbelly that has always been there, but that has been crawling ever further into the light during the tenure of this administration.
The line up works very well, creating a dismal, post-apocalyptic sound, full of ominous intent.
Please don’t sleep on this Album Of The Year contender from some of our most promising local talent.
They’ve taken the venom they normally spew, distilled it, and slowed it down.
What a year it’s been! There is no way a top 50 album is enough to truly express the fantastic year of music that was 2018. Nevertheless, check it out, comment, agree, argue, enjoy!
